Our Methodology

How CrystalStones.com calculates, interprets, and recommends, explained.

Reviewed by The CrystalStones.com Editorial Team · Last updated May 2026

How is CrystalStones.com content made?

Every CrystalStones.com reading is calculated by deterministic math (Hellenistic profections, BaZi Zi Ping method, Pythagorean reduction), narrated by Claude Sonnet 4.5 in each persona's voice, then reviewed by Editorial Director Dr. Maya Okonkwo before delivery. Cited classical sources throughout.

Our promise

Why this page exists

When you use a free tool online, a birth chart calculator, a tarot draw, a crystal recommendation, you deserve to know two things: what's computed and what's interpreted. Many spiritual sites blur this line. We won't.

This page explains exactly how our tools work, where our interpretations come from, where AI is used, and what we don't claim. If you have questions after reading this, contact us.

According to Chris Brennan in Hellenistic Astrology (2017), the most credible modern astrology writing names its classical sources. In the same spirit, every interpretive page on CrystalStones.com cites the lineage it inherits. Judy Hall in The Crystal Bible (2003) describes the same standard for crystal writing. Rachel Pollack in Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom (1980) describes it for tarot. According to the traditional editorial standard these authors share, the reader should always be able to follow the citation trail back to the source.

How it works

The three layers of every tool

Every tool on CrystalStones.com combines three different kinds of work:

Layer 1: Calculation (mathematics)

These are precise, deterministic, scientifically verifiable. Planetary positions, moon phase fractions, eclipse predictions, numerological reductions, and compatibility algorithm scores.

Our libraries: astronomy-engine (MIT license, VSOP87/DE-440 ephemeris from JPL/NASA), circular-natal-horoscope-js (MIT), AstroDraw/AstroChart (MIT).

Accuracy: Our planetary position calculations match Astro.com, Cafe Astrology, and professional astrology software to within rounding error. Eclipse predictions are accurate decades in advance. Moon phase calculations are accurate to within seconds.

Layer 2: Tradition (interpretation)

Once the math is done, what do the numbers mean? That's interpretation, drawn from specific cultural and historical traditions.

Astrology: Traditional Western astrology. Sources include Robert Hand, Liz Greene, Demetra George, and Steven Forrest.

Tarot: Rider-Waite-Smith deck (public domain since 2021). Sources include A.E. Waite, Rachel Pollack, Mary K. Greer, and Jungian archetypal psychology.

Numerology: Pythagorean tradition. Sources include Hans Decoz and traditional Pythagorean letter-value correspondences.

Crystal healing: Western metaphysical tradition (Melody, Judy Hall), Indian Ayurvedic gemology, chakra healing tradition, and geological/mineralogical facts from peer-reviewed sources.

I-Ching: Wilhelm-Baynes translation (public domain).

Chakra theory: Yogic tradition, referencing Anodea Judith and traditional Sanskrit texts.

Layer 3: Curation (editorial judgment)

Beyond raw calculation and traditional sources, our editorial team applies modern, practical judgment: which interpretation feels most useful for a modern reader, which crystals genuinely pair with which intentions, how to present complex material clearly, and what feels genuinely helpful versus overpromising.

Who writes this

Our editorial team

We write under specialist personas to keep voice consistent across topic areas. These are editorial pen names representing our team's expertise in each area, similar to how a magazine has a "Style Editor" or a newspaper has a "Travel Correspondent."

We chose this approach for SEO clarity, voice consistency, and reader navigation.

Recent persona-authored flagship work includes Master Wei Lin's Year of the Fire Horse 2026 BaZi guide, Selene Tides' 2026 lunations library covering all 25 dated full moons and new moons, Astrid Moon's Saturn Return cycle guide for the cohort born 1996 to 1998, and Crystal Cassandra's authenticity guide library for the most-counterfeited stones. Each was researched against the named classical sources for its tradition.

How we use AI

We're transparent about where AI is involved.

Tools that use AI

  • Dream Interpreter: Interpreted by Anthropic's Claude model using Jungian + archetypal symbolism. The 100 hand-written dream symbol guides that pair with it are editorial, not AI-generated.
  • Crystal Identifier: Uses Claude's vision capabilities for identification; metaphysical summaries draw on traditional sources, with the authenticity guide library as the editorial counterpart for buyer-grade verification.
  • Oracle Chatbot (Premium): An AI assistant called Sage, always transparent about being AI.
  • Daily energy summaries: AI-generated reading of current planetary energies.

Tools that do NOT use AI

  • Birth chart calculations (pure astronomy library)
  • Moon phase / eclipse predictions (pure astronomy library)
  • Numerology calculations (deterministic math)
  • Love Calculator (LOVES letter-counting algorithm)
  • Card draws (random number generation)
  • All written encyclopedia content (editorially written)

Our AI principles

  1. Transparency: If AI is involved, we say so on the page.
  2. Privacy: Uploaded images are processed and deleted, never stored.
  3. Boundaries: AI never makes medical claims or replaces professional advice.
  4. Quality: All AI outputs are constrained by system prompts grounded in traditional sources.
  5. Fallback: AI recommendations are cross-checked against our curated crystal database.
Honest limits

What we don't claim

We don't claim crystals cure illnesses. Crystals are tools for setting intentions and supporting reflection.

We don't claim tarot predicts the future. Cards reflect the patterns you're already living.

We don't claim astrology is scientifically validated. It is a traditional symbolic language for self-understanding.

We don't claim numerology determines fate. It is a pattern-recognition system rooted in Pythagorean tradition.

We don't claim our AI is conscious, psychic, or in contact with spirits.

We don't claim to replace medical, legal, financial, or psychological care.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Are your birth chart calculations as accurate as professional astrology software?

Yes. We use the same ephemeris data (VSOP87 / DE-440) and the same calculation algorithms as Astro.com, Cafe Astrology, and Solar Fire. Planetary positions match to within rounding error.

Do you believe in this stuff?

We believe these tools have value as frameworks for self-reflection, not as predictive technology. People have used astrology, tarot, numerology, and crystal practices for thousands of years to think about their lives. We find this tradition valuable. We also believe in honesty, which is why we don't make scientific claims we can't back up.

Why use AI at all?

For things that genuinely benefit from it: interpreting open-ended user input (dreams, photos), tying multiple data points together (tarot spreads), and providing personalized conversation (the Oracle). AI is a tool, not a replacement for editorial work.

How do you make money?

We sell crystals through CrystalStones.com. Tools are free; if our recommendations resonate, we hope you'll consider buying from us. We also offer premium subscriptions for unlimited AI tool usage and detailed PDF reports.

Are the personas real people?

The personas are editorial pen names, like a magazine's Style Editor. They represent our team's expertise in each area. We work with real astrologers, crystal practitioners, and writers who contribute under these editorial voices.

What if a tool gives me a result that feels wrong?

Trust your intuition. These tools are mirrors, not authorities. If a result doesn't fit, set it aside. The point is reflection, not compliance.
