Libra in classical melothesia governs the loins and lower back, what Culpeper's sources called the reins. The symbolic logic is again poetic: Libra is the scales of the zodiac, and the sources named its region the body's own scales. Venus rules Libra, and Renaissance practitioners associated Venus with herbs that soothe, cool, and balance, many of the herbs Culpeper filed under this region of the body are 'Venusian.'
