What is midheaven (mc)?
The midheaven, or MC (Medium Coeli), is the highest point of a natal chart, the cusp of the 10th house. In traditional Western astrology, it represents public identity, career direction, and the legacy a person is here to build.
The midheaven sits at the top of the chart wheel, directly opposite the Imum Coeli (IC) at the bottom. It marks the zodiac degree culminating in the sky at the exact moment and place of birth. The chart suggests the midheaven as the visible peak of your life, the role you naturally inhabit in public, the direction your ambition climbs toward, the reputation you accrue over time.
In traditional Western astrology, the midheaven is one of the four chart angles, along with the Ascendant, Descendant, and IC. The midheaven has been a primary chart angle since Hellenistic astrology systematized the twelve houses around the 2nd century BCE.
