Annual profection is a Hellenistic time-lord technique, restored to modern practice by the Hellenistic-revival movement. It's based on Vettius Valens's Anthology Book IV (the Project Hindsight translations). The idea: each year of life advances by one whole-sign house from your natal Ascendant. The planet ruling the activated sign is your Lord of the Year, its transits, returns, and natal placement carry extra weight. It's the most accurate annual-key technique we have from antiquity. Yes, for the full reading. Without a birth time, the Ascendant cannot be calculated, which means annual profections, the Solar Return chart, the natal house positions, and Zodiacal Releasing all lose their precision. If you don't have your birth time exactly, an approximate time (within an hour) still produces a useful reading, working Hellenistic astrologers read this way often and the classical literature discusses rectification techniques.
